Our Little Happiness Jar Is Full

Full Happiness Jar

Our Happiness Jar Is Full !

A while ago, Rory and I made a Happiness Jar. I wrote a blog post about our project, and why we were doing it in Our Little Happiness Jar, click to read about it.

Today, our Jar was very full, and we decided to read the notes we stuffed inside. It was great. We sat down with our morning cups of coffee, and took turns reading the scraps of paper. What a joy. We laughed and talked about some of the memories the notes brought back, about how somethings had changed. We became sentimental with others. It was a nice moment, quality mother and daughter time, and a wonderful start to our “Happy” day.

If you don’t have a Happiness Jar, I would highly recommend you think about starting one for your family. We saved our notes in a ziplock bag and marked it with the date we read them. Maybe somewhere down the line it will be fun to take a look back.

Do you have any similar family traditions?

Does your family sit down and focus on the happiness/blessings of your lives?

  1. We started one at the beginning of this year, and then stuff got crazy and we kinda forgot 😦 Crazy GOOD, even! I need to go back and add stuff in! (Our idea was to open it on New Year’s Eve and see how much awesome stuff had happened throughout the year!) Thanks for the reminder!

Oh, I love this idea! In my MOPS group a few years ago, we made 1 sentence memory boxes. The idea was to write down one sentence each night about what had happened with your children that day. Then, in a year, you’d look back and read about all the memories. I loved this idea, too. But for some reason, could never keep up with it. Go figure, I can maintain a blog and multiple websites, but can’t keep up with a one-sentence daily requirement! Thanks for sharing this happiness jar idea!

    • that is an awesome idea! As quickly as kids change over the years, I bet it would amazing to go through and read with them. πŸ™‚
Huh…life happens, right? Our little jar sits in our living room and we see it and pass it everyday, all day…so when we get the time, we add something to it.

  3. What a unique way to count your blessings. We started a Gratitude Board on our frig, but fell out of habit 😦

This is a good idea. I’m going to post this on the Point’s of Destination FB page. It ties in very well with our focus on the family theme. I think this would be a good project especially since so many of our families are in transition. Awesome post!

  5. Lorelai, I love this idea! This will be a great thing to do with my kids to see how their things change over time.

  6. Love it, this is very precious. We do not have a happiness jar, but I do have lots of sticky notes, cards … from the time kids were little. So nice to go back, and thank God for the blessings we have had.

  7. Sounds like a GREAT start to the day! We don’t do anything similar, maybe when at least one of my kids can write, I don’t have the time for dictation right now =)

    • Yep…we have done something similar with a Christmas Blessings Box that sits under our tree for years now, but that is Christmas Blessings…and this is everyday happiness. You will find it will bring you tons of joy! πŸ™‚

  8. I’ve been thinking about this since I first read the first post. I want to do the Thankful Jar. There is so much to be thankful for. Would be great to open it at Thanksgiving as well. πŸ™‚

how awesome! sounds like a tradition we may need to start! πŸ™‚

I’ve never heard of that before, but what a cute idea! I know at bedtime we always say our favorite parts of the day, as a way to focus on the good parts, rather than on the bad (which we usually do). This seems like another good way for us to focus on the good parts of what’s going on in our lives.

We started this a looooong time ago and forgot all about it. A few months back I broke it out and read them and it was awesome. I think I should start it back up! Thanks for the inspiration!

  12. What a great idea! We don’t have a tradition like that… at least not yet! Maybe now I will. It’s such a good thing to do.

I love this idea! This will be a great one to start as my children are young and we are working on traditions. Guess we will be starting a new tradition a blogging mommy, they didn’t have those in previous generations!

  15. We were thinking about doing something similar for our wedding. We would ask guests to write down a memory with us and add it to the jar and then start reading them on our anniversaries.

I love this idea and wish so much that I had done this when the boys were little! They’re 14 and 17 now and I know wouldn’t do it…Great idea! πŸ™‚

    • My daughter just turned 18 and she loves it, but you’re right, she’s a girl. Boys that age may not do it on a regular basis. Maybe you could give it a shot as an event. Once a week or once a month when you have a family dinner, have everyone fill out some slips with happy things, memories, or blessings, and take turn reading them throughout dinner. It would definitely spark to great conversation, memories, and laughs.
