My excitement has been growing by pumpkin vines and horns of plenty in anticipation of Autumn. The wonderful season that fills your home with warmth, bountiful harvests, and the sweet smelling aromas of pumpkin pie.
Two nights ago, as we watched TV, Luke was reading the paper. Suddenly, he turned to me and said, “You, are Adam!” I looked at him like he was crazy, “What?” He flicked the paper with his fingers and told me to read the cartoon strip, Adam by Brian Besset. As you can see from the cartoon above, I am Adam. We had a really good laugh.
Luke and I have been seeing advertisements and store shelves filled with the beautiful colors of Fall and home decoration ideas. Starbucks brought back their tremendously tasty treat, the Pumpkin Spice Latte. That is my all time favorite coffee drink. Check out more about that at my recent post, Homemade Pumpkin Spice Syrup! Last week, Luke bought me an Autumn themed floor mat for my kitchen. It features a scarecrow and of course… Pumpkins!
I love pumpkins! Everything about them speaks to my soul, from the vibrant colors to the widely varied uses. Each year I make a delicious Pasta with Pumpkin and Sausage dish as a kick-off to Fall. This year I will be sharing this recipe with you, so don’t forget to check back!

Triple Scene Pumpkin 2011
This pumpkin had three scenes with a “W” spacer between each. Carved for the Westin South Coast Plaza Hotel.
Of course, pumpkins are great in the garden and as decorations in the house, but my favorite thing about pumpkins is carving them. I have many ideas floating around in my head for carving designs for this year. Take a look at some of my previous work on my Pumpkin Carving page.
Over the next few weeks, Life With Lorelai will be offering some Pumpkin Carving Tips & Tricks. We will also be hosting a very special October Contest. Be sure to watch for more details.

Ahoy, me mateys! Anchor ye ship at th’ Lorelai Pier on th’ morrow fer some grog-filled a ruckas, ye scurvy dog.
Fall is my favorite, and I LOVE baking with pumpkin! I can hardly wait to start on the pumpkin breads! (Two years ago there was a shortage of canned pumpkin in Florida and I almost had a nervous breakdown LOL) And have you heard about the Pumpkin Spice M&M’s? You can get them at Target!
I have NOT heard about the Pumpkin Spice M&M’s! OMG… I’m gonna have to get some. đŸ™‚
A Pumpkin shortage in Florida? Say it’s not so! Well, at least the nightmare is in the past. Happy Pumpkin Season, Kristen! đŸ˜€
Oh I love pumpkin too. Its hard to get into it here in FL
Why is it hard in Florida, because of the weather or availability?
The weather. I’m from MI its so hard to get into fall with 100 degree temps and no changing trees.
There is quite a difference between the two states all right. Give yourself the Fall colors in your home. Florida outside and a Michigan Autumn inside! Who knows, it may become a new tradition. đŸ™‚
Your blog today made me smile. My husband works about 10 hours away from home. This summer he and his roomie decided to plant a garden. When I went to visit him, the first thing he showed me was their beautiful garden. He excited pointed to one area and exclaimed, “look! Pumpkins!! Lots and lots of pumpkins!”
I didn’t realize he was so in love with them. LOL
Hahahaha! That is awesome, Sharon! I want to have pumpkins in my garden… maybe next year. !0-hours away from home, that is tough. I hope you get to see him soon and that you both enjoy a very happy Pumpkin Season! đŸ™‚
Thank you! A very Happy Pumpkin Season to you! I does get old having him so far away. He gets home on long weekends to see the boys and me. Next up, Thanksgiving! (Canadian Thanksgiving, that is .. second weekend in October!)
Woot for Canadian Thanksgiving! I hope you all have a wonderful visit together. đŸ™‚
Those are big pumpkins! Sweet! Nice pictures of them also! I like gathering different color leaves of all shapes and sizes, apple picking for apple crumb snacks, pumpkin and gord picks, going to craft fairs, and finding really cool corn stalks to decorate outside my parents’ house. đŸ™‚
Those are some awesome ideas, Karen! There is a town called Julian about 100 miles or so from me that I have always wanted to go to in the Autumn. My understanding is that it is kind of a throwback town to yester-year, and you can go apple picking there. I want to do that so bad! đŸ™‚
I love, love, love pumpkin! But unfortunately so do the squash bugs. Apparently even more than I do. This was my first year growing pumpkins. I, sadly, did not know about squash bugs. I grew exactly one pumpkin (but oh how we savored it). Sigh. So next year I’m going to wage war. But in the meantime, I will get a few at the store and be anxiously awaiting your ideas and the contest!
Squash Bugs! I don’t like bugs. Now I’m worried about wanting a pumpkin garden next year. You will have to impart all of your knowledge and experience. I too will be purchasing pumpkins… it’s gonna be FUN! đŸ™‚
I actually quite like bugs but these guys are pushing it! They built an army on my squash and pumpkin plants before I knew what was happening. They are in the stink bug family, go figure. Just research squash bugs for next year. Maybe in CA you won’t have as much trouble as KS. Lots of people use 7 dust but I don’t want to do that, so will have to find a more natural approach. Don’t let it deter you! Gardens are the best!
Keep me updated on what you figure out for your bugs. I really do want a pumpkin garden! đŸ™‚ I hope the bugs don’t like CA.
Congrats on the mention rockstar! Ok, judging by all my friends I’m strange because I can hurl at anything pumpkin flavored. BUT to my defense I do like pumpkin carving, so I want to know you tricks. Being a not so creative carver I said we were going to try and do something cool this year. My husband put a wig on our last pumpkin and said it was Mr. Brown from “Meet the Browns”. Your one of my FB Friends so you will see after we get done. Pray for us! LOL!!
I will definitely be posting Pumpkin Carving tip & Tricks! I can’t wait to see what you will be able to accomplish this year. đŸ™‚
Mr. Brown…HA!
I can feel your excitement when you talk about all those pumpkin things, so I am happy for you!
I’m glad to hear that my emotions come through my writing! đŸ™‚
Thank you so much for linking to me Lorelai! My kids and I can’t wait to see all your pumpkin carvings this year đŸ™‚
I’m excited to see them too! LOL I hope you will watch for my October Contest… I think you and the kids will LOVE it! đŸ™‚
I adore pumpkin season, too! Pumpkins scream fall! I believe!
Happy Pumpkin Season to a fellow believer! đŸ™‚
It’s funny, I’ve been so excited for fall so I could see all the awesome pumpkins you carve! Woot woot! Bonus, you’re going to teach me how to make some fun pumpkin carvings. I usually always do the same one — a big mouth with it vomiting out pumpkin seed guts. It always makes me laugh, but it’s short on creativity. Shows how mature I am.
LOL …Rochelle, you always make me laugh. October’s gonna be fun! đŸ™‚
My kids enjoy fall and especially Halloween when all you see if pumpkins. They get to go to the pumpkin farm and from there the insanity begins. I love pumpkin pie so I guess I’m part of those who love pumpkin season. đŸ™‚
Yeah! A fellow believer! The pumpkin patch was always a fun place to go with my kids. đŸ™‚
I LOVE fall and pumpkin season! My house is painted and decorated in fall colors, so when it IS fall, I mean Pumpkin, all my decorations fit in perfectly.
Looking forward to your 2013 carvings. My dh carves them too. The last one he did was my face in one. đŸ™‚
Your house sounds lovely. The dh had a great time I’m sure. It takes a lot of time to do the more intricate carvings. Happy Pumpkin! đŸ™‚
