An Invitation To Thanksgiving

Snoopy Thanksgiving Dinner " Life With Lorelai

Charles Shultz

Luke and I are hosting Thanksgiving Dinner at my house this year for the first time. Is it the first time I am holding the festivities in my home? No, but it is the first time for many of Luke’s family to come to my home. Last year, Luke popped through my family’s Thanksgiving on his way to see his family. Needless to say, I am both excited and a little nervous. I just want everything to be wonderful, delicious, and fun.

After Luke talked with his family over the phone, I decided to send an email with all of the details. I wanted something special for that correspondence, so I put together a little invitation.

Thanksgiving Invitaion 2013 - Life With LorelaiThis lovely invitation heads my email and the details followed below. Using clipart and some really fun fonts from this PIN on my Fonts Pinterest Board, I had a great time creating. I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. What do you think?

Do you send out an invitation?

Any suggestions for making this first Thanksgiving together very special?

  1. I didn’t send invitation but we did call everyone on the phone. We are also having a mini cook off, plus we play games at our celebration.

  2. I love it. So pretty and festive. We’re not really doing a Thanksgiving dinner this year with family. My husband, youngest son and I eat steak with all the trimmings. lol I’d love for you to link-up this post on my Family Friday link-up today 🙂

  3. You are so creative! That looks so warm and welcoming, I’m sure they are all excited to come!

  4. Love this invite! Don’t be nervous it is fun and even if some things go wonky, everyone will have a great time! Listen to my show on November 22, Chef Laura will be telling all her secrets to make a perfect Thanksgiving Meal! You have to blog about how it turns out!

  5. It’s so cute! I love it! No, we don’t send out invitations – I think everyone just kind of follows the smell of the food LOL

  6. It turned out adorable. I am needing a tutorial on creating things like this…maybe you should host a class.

  7. I don’t send invites because my family is so small. I host every year and we only have about a dozen people, so it’s very manageable!

  8. Love it! Can’t wait to attend, I’ll bring the wine! Oh….that wasn’t meant for me? I am sure it will be filled with many warm memories.

  9. It looks great! Really pretty! We’re having just close family at a little cabin we have by the lake 🙂 First year doing that so it should be fun. My hubby always has wine at holidays, which I had never done before. But it makes it seem so formal 🙂

Your invitation is so beautiful! I really need to learn how to make things like that.

  11. Natalie says:

I love your invitation! Light candles and play festive music at a low volume to create cozy ambiance. We always do this!

I like that! You are a woman of many hats! I think between cooking and preparing for company, I wouldn’t even think about invitations. I would be concerned that I keep my sanity! 🙂

How exciting. That invitation was a nice touch. I never cook Thanksgiving. My mom does. I have plenty of other holiday meals at our house though. My advice is to not wear yourself out so much that you can’t have fun too. Sure the food is important, but being together is too.

  14. Vee says:

Very nice! I’m sure everyone will love the invitation.
I always think about giving the guests something to take home. Some decorated jars with some kind of mix inside that they could just put together in no time? Or even a cellophane bag with muffins or some little snack inside for later.
    Hope you have great success.

You never cease to amaze me with your creativity 🙂 We don’t do invites/evites, just a ton of emails deciding who is bringing what, which is fun in itself. I host a desert break at work in our office just before Christmas and send invites (printed and email) to other offices in the building, these would be a festive addition to our sweet treat beak 🙂

    • Thanks, Kim. I do enjoy creating things. 🙂 I worked in an executive suite for a while (pre-kids), and we had Friday treats and of course special little things fr the holidays. I was working for the property manager of the suites so we were always in charge of those things, and it was so much fun.

If I was having a lot of company then I would use an invitation but this year it will just be us.

  17. Since we’re in a state with no family around it’s just going to be us this year. Nice invite though and I’m sure they will enjoy the dinner you have planned.

  18. Adelien says:

I wish I live in the USA which has a lot of celebrations and meals. LOL…

  19. Carli says:

Beautiful! I didn’t do invites last year but I wish I had! Although they wouldn’t have been this pretty

  20. This is a great idea. I don’t use invitations. I just do Facebook invite to the group or occasion. Then I have my discussions in there. This is a lot cuter!

Lorelai, I clicked on those Pinterest links, got completely lost in Pinterest and had to use GPS to get back here 🙂

  22. Lovely invite! We never receive invites anymore. It’s more texting of when, where, and time. But I love how you did yours.
And thanks for talking about Thanksgiving. Everywhere I turn (even on the radio), I see or hear Christmas. I like celebrating what we’re thankful for.

  23. Carli says:

Thank you so very much for stopping by and sharing on Family Friday Link Up Party! Hope to see you again next week!

  24. I usually mail out invitations but this is a great idea. This is going to be the first TG that we are not hosting dinner in our home. It feels weird, but it’s going to be just the two of us 🙂
