Getting Ready For Christmas

Getting Ready for Christmas - Life With Lorelai

Are You Getting Ready?

It has been a crazy couple of weeks on our stretch of the beach, but we’ll get into that a little later. I hope you all had a fantastic Thanksgiving and are getting ready for a wonderful holiday season.

Last month I made Autumn Pillow Covers for the throw pillows in my living room. At that time, I told you my plan was to use the covers for Christmas as well, with just a change of decorations.

So here it is… the Autumn Pillow Covers – Christmas Style!

My Christmas Pillow Covers!

Again, I removed the wire from the ribbon (I don’t want anybody to get poked). I used this ribbon to decorate other things around my house too. Don’t forget to check out the step-by-step tutorial, DIY – Pillow Covers!

It’s Christmastime!

I absolutely LOVE decorating for Christmas. I turn on the Christmas music and sing and dance around while I prepare my home the glorious festivities.

Here are a few of our decorations…

Merry Christmas Blocks | Life With Lorelai

This display is on my stair landing and features a tree that Rory made in preschool.

Snowflakes ion the recessed Lighting | Life With Lorelai

I decided my new recessed lighting in the living room needed to be decorated for Christmas. It looks like a winter wonderland! I bought these adorable snowflakes as a six-pack at the 99-cents Only Store. Add a little elastic and some transparent thread and you have a simple and fun decoration.

I continued the snowflake theme in several other areas of our home…
including the guest bathroom.

Father Christmas-Sled-Elves | Life With Lorelai

This is one of my favorite displays. Father Christmas sitting in a sled with elves and sleigh bells. Fresh Christmas greens always add beauty and a wonderful scent all around your home; I love to use them.

  1. Your decorations are lovely. I’ve had a hard time getting in the spirit this year. I think it’s because Thanksgiving came so late & our decorations come down Christmas night, so I didn’t bother with a lot of them this year.

  2. Rebekah says:

I’ve been wondering where you were. J love the snowflakes, we have some ornaments that look similar and they ate some of my favorite ones. We just got our.tree decorated Monday and I still have a couple decorations to put around the house.

    • I have always loved snowflakes, so these were a great find! I have my tree, the lights are on, but we don;t have the ornaments on just yet. We’re waiting to see if Kirk will make it home this weekend from college first. đŸ™‚ Fingers crossed…

  3. Lorelai, I love these decorations. So great to see you. I think I have missed your posts lately. Great ideas here. Thanks so much for sharing them. Tell me what you used the elastic for on the snowflakes. I love that idea. I am in process of finishing my decorating now. This is our second Christmas in this house and last year my husband’s health was really bad so I didn’t do much but put up a tree. This year I am trying to really decorate the place.

    • I just sewed the ends of the elastic to make a circle that I could stretch around the recessed lighting trim to hold the snowflake decoration in place. I have been extremely busy these past couple of weeks.no posts or much activity on internet at all. It’s nice to see you too! Have fun with your decorating! đŸ™‚

Ha. When I read your first sentence, I read “beach.” Then I was like, “beach? Where’s the beach? I want beach!” lol. Anything to get away from this snow and cold. And I know the blogging world missed you!
These decorations are beautiful. I especially like the snowflakes by the mirror and how you used the Christmas tree Rory made.

  5. Wow Lorelai, seems like you’re really ready for Christmas. I haven’t done anything at all. My house looks just like it looked during the summer. My excuse was that we’re not going to be here. My oldest daughter wants to put up a tree and make it look Christmasy but I said no. Now looking at your decorations I may have to rethink it and get a cheap fake tree. đŸ™‚

    • My house isn’t finished yet, but we are having a blast getting it decorated. I don’t think I could go completely without Christmas decorations even if I were going away… I’d have to do a little something at least. Have fun, and enjoy your holiday away! đŸ™‚

  6. I love your decorations! Those pillows are my favorite thing. What a great idea to customize your every day pillows. I’m no decorator, ha! But my favorite thing is a 75-year or more old baby Jesus in a manger that was my mother’s mother’s decoration. It is simple and square and beautiful. My mom this year also gave me the 50-year-old (she bought it in 1962 in Japan) nativity that was always in my house growing up. Oh and my Halloween pumpkin has become a science project out front next to our front porch, which Brady absolutely loves. Poor old thing is withering away in a bizarre and interesting fashion. Does that count as a decoration? hee hee

    • I love old, passed-down Christmas decorations. I have a bunch of antique Christmas bulbs among other things that help bring family past and present into our holiday celebrations. They all make for wonderful memories.

I love that Brady is enjoying every last moment of his pumpkin! What a fun way to gain a science lesson. đŸ™‚

Lorelai, I remember the Fall pillows, they were great. These are so cute! Of your decor’, My fav is the Santa dressed in pink velvet in that sleigh! Thanks for sharing, I love looking at everyone’s decorations. That was a fun series Kristen did last week too!

  8. anallievent says:

I loved your autumn pillows and I love your Christmas version, too! Thanks for sharing all of your beautiful decorations! I love old decorations, too. My tree in the great room has everything but the kitchen sink, including ornaments made by my children when they were small. I love it!

  9. So happy to see you again đŸ™‚ I love the re-do of the pillows, my favorite! You may soon have a pillow fan club! I do little Christmas at home (long story) but have so much fun with my office at work. The tree is up, while simple, it’s beautiful (well, I think so). I like putting sprigs of fake greens and some flowers as well to help fill the empty spaces, I buy scented pine cones for a basket under the tree and each year as the scent fades we add those pinecones to the tree branches the following year. No ornaments, just greens, flowers, pinecones and a bow with white lights. It’s very serene. My FAVORITE decoration is a feather wreath with a big leopard skin velvet bow!! Definitely have to get a picture to share!! If I have time i’m going to make a new skirt with fleece from my new sew pattern on my blog.

  10. Lovely! I am a frugal decorator, I think. And I am not ready for Christmas, but eh, it will come and be great anyways, after all Christmas is not about us, is it! Have a blessed Christmas!

  11. Looking great! Thanks again for the shout-out!!! đŸ™‚

  12. Love your decorations. We have snowflakes all over too. We were married in December and several of our blue and white decorations are used in our home.

  13. Amanda Smith says:

I love the snowflake idea! Everything looks great! I have not decorated one thing. I am just not in the mood this year. I am ready to Celebrate and Jesus family and presents and food, but I just have not been inspired to decorate.

    • I went through that last year, which actually turned out for the very best as we had a huge flood in our house. If I had decorated as usual, we would have lost all of our Christmas decorations instead of just some. Decorations are fun, but the season is about more important things. Have a merry Christmas! đŸ™‚

  14. Brandi @ Finding the Path for Me says:

Oh so happy to hear from you! I love your decorations especially Father Christmas and I think you inspired me to cut out some snowflakes today!!

  15. Carli says:

Very cute! I still love the pillows! I love the idea of them. Its my kind of decor! Multi tasking!
